Uh-oh! Back again
It's been a while,
I just finished my final big assignment for school yesterday and a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I have some other physics work to do but that's due on the 16th so I have time. The only regents I'm slightly worried about is physics because I have to remember all the units for each symbol but that's on the 22nd, so again, lots of time, no stress. But now I have free time! I will be going to many a shows and might even go to a party or two until I leave for Greece-which is very soon. I leave on the 29th of June and I return September 3rd. I won't be going to any summer shows and I will be getting badddd fomo. But I'm balancing out the fomo with posting photos of the beach every time I see show photos.
- It's going to be particularly sad that I won't be here for the summer because all the bands with high school seniors will probably break up once they leave for college. This summer basically woulda been my last chance to capture them in my photossss. π
- I just had my school college counselor meeting today. I should have my personal essay done by mid-summer. Turns out it's only 500-600 words! I did not know nor expect that. The way I was imagining it it was supposed to be like 10 pages. The hard part is condensing but whatevs, I'll figure it out when the time comes.
I can't blog anything without mentioning the smoke cloud yesterday. The fires in Canada brought smoke all the way to NYC (and they continue farther into the country) and everything turned yellow. During passing periods, the only thing I heard in hallways chatter was conversation about the smoke, "crazy: must have been the top word used yesterday in Stuyvesant high school. The big windows in the hallway were packed with people taking photos of the NYC skyline with its abnormally yellow hue. The smell of smoke permeated even into the highest floors of the school and we were all handed masks as we were leaving. Y'know how smell is really closely related to memory- I had experienced a wildfire in Chios in 2016 and I had forgotten the smell until I was abruptly reminded of it yesterday. I was also reminded of a video I took on that day where you could hear me talking with my weird little accent.
Last time I blogged I complained about how my camera wasn't working well so I bought a new one to be able to take photos at the Garden's concert at Irving Plaza. Turned out I made the absolute worst choice. The camera that I bought turns out to have a broken shutter so all the 72 photos I took were never actually exposed. Heartbreaking. I also used that camera to take photos for the punks of color show at the Quaker house, those photos received the same fate. I just feel really guilty because I asked for the opportunity to take pictures of the Garden and I haven't been able to give back anything in return. I really wish I had the photos for TSOL, the wives at the merch table told us it was going to be their last tour so I wish I could have those in my collections. π
- BUT in better news: a NEW camera has just arrived today. It's now my 4th camera and I messaged the seller on ebay making sure that everything was in working order so I don't make the mistake of the garden again. I am so excited for the June 10th show with METH WAX. LIKE WHAT??? METH WAX??? THAT'S CRAZY!!!! I will deffo be taking photos that day. The venue is grindtime which is not great for photo-taking but I will make it work.
I am almost caught up in writing replies to the letters I have exchanged with people. I have two left. Sorry Siobhan and Daniel Murdoch, I'll do those soon probably. If you are in letter correspondence with me keep in mind that I will not receive any letters between June 29th and September 3rd. You can still send them, we have a neighbor who's collecting our mail while we're gone, but just know that I won't get to them til I get back.
I have a pass for the MET for "you and up to four friends and family members" that expires on June 30th 2023. Since it's free for NY, NJ, and CT residents I have no use for it. If anyone has any family that's visiting (or if you yourself are visiting) hit me up so you can attain this holy grail for NYC tourists.
I'm trying to read more. Now that school is basically done and I won't have to worry about upcoming assignments (outside of college stuff) I can use my free time guilt free! I will be bringing books to Greece and this time I'll actually read them.
Medical advertisements are crazy. The words they make for the medications are crazy. The only way I can imagine that those names are chosen is with like random letter generators.
To update some stuff from the last post, my room is neater and I bought new earbuds which I've been more careful with. My list of stressors was the following: "AP tests, retaking the SAT, college counselor meetings (I still need to write my SSR), Greek proficiency test, trying to understand physics, projects due right before AP season, etc." I finished my APs, I retook the SAT, I did both of my college counseling meetings, I took the Greek proficiency, I still don't really understand physics but I understand it enough for regents, and obvi all the past projects have been completed.
- Yesterday was my most stressful day in a while. I didn't sleep from Tuesday to Wednesday so I could work on a project for NYC history (a walking tour of Williamsburg, the bulk of the information is in the speaker notes: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1i-7qSzaZQiQ9q-hv0ed5AJLyr6i0WclvE_cx-XJTe0c/edit?usp=sharing) and somehow I managed to stay awake until 8:30ish so I could finish writing my article for the Spectator (stuy's newspaper). I wish I slept more from yesterday to today but I couldn't because I needed to write up a little college preferences thing for my meeting with the college counselor. Whatevs, this summer will be full of sleep and finally being well rested.
