Hello.

Joey started a blog (https://myhumantruth.blogspot.com/) and that reminded me that I have a blog and about a month has passed since my last post so I thought maybe I should post again.

I went through a scroll on pinterest yesterday and I found some photos that I like so I wanted to share them.

1.

This one is by Niki Gleoudi. She's Greek. All her photos have kind of a surreal quality that I enjoy, take this one too for example:
She's got some real good stuff, look her up if ur into photos.

2.

I have no idea who took these, but I love the combo of these photos, for reasons that seem obvious. Hilarity. I've been appreciating combo photos more, like these photos (/ this photo? is it considered one or two photos?) that I shared in my last blog post:

There's also a combo photo on instagram by @noah_colby that I saw that I really liked, but I can't copy the photo onto this blog. Here's the link to it: https://www.instagram.com/p/C53kJzuOmYz/?img_index=2 it's the second photo in the post in case it doesn't open up on the right one.

3.
And now here's a collection of photos I have as postcards that I got from Paris when I visited the Henri Cartier Bresson Foundation on my last day in the city.
By Martine Franck. On the back it says "Tory Island, Irlande, 2000" but I couldn't it find online anywhere so I took a photo of the actual postcard.

This one is by Weegee, "Man arrested for cross-dressing, New York" from 1939.

Another Weegee. "Circus performer Miss Victory (Eglie Zacchini) shot out of a cannon at the speed of 360 feet a second, New York" from 1943

Weegee is great.

THE USUAL

Ok back to what I usually do, life updates. I've got no major updates honestly, not a lot has been happening.

It's spring break currently.

OH.
I should mention that I got into NYU. I'm going to NYU. My last blog update was before college decisions were out. Lol. I'm going for anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences. They gave me a lot of money, the one time it's good to be poor. But now I've got to apply to scholarships. Two of the ones I've got my eye on are due May 10th and the third is due in June so I don't have to worry about that one just yet. It's strange how it's almost May. And after May is June. June is the end of my high school career. How strange.

I'm not eager to leave Stuyvesant High School. High school is safe and secure. Once I enter college I'm going to have to actually start working and, quote on quote, start getting my life together.

I've been 18 for exactly a month since today is April 24th 2024. The only thing I've done so far is buy a lottery ticket. It was a $2 and I won $0.

I've started scrapbooking. I always keep trash that has even the slightest semblance of a sentimental value, and one day I decided to finally assemble all of them together into a book. So far I've got a bit less than half a moleskin notebook filled up. The pages that have been used are bulging.

I organized a small portion of my room today. I've got to get myself and my space all cleaned up before I leave for college. I'm probably going to dorm at NYU since the financial aid package includes housing, and again, they gave me a lot of money, so I might as well live there. Plus, dorming means I won't have to live with my mother for another 4 years. She's not unbearable, but I would prefer to live in a space without my mother's constant worry.

I have a stack of books on the corner of my desk that I have placed on top of the scrapbook in a futile attempt to flatten it out when it's not in use. From top to bottom:
  • The Last Bohemia: Scenes from the Life of Williamsburg, Brooklyn by Robert Anasi
    • I bought this at Village Works on Friday April 19th, 2024. I talked with Damien about Williamsburg for a while after I bought it. Here's the link to the Williamsburg walking tour project I did for my NYC history class last year if anyone's interested. Look at the speaker notes for more details.
  • Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell
    • This is the book that we are reading in english class currently.
  • Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel
    • My english teacher gave this to me at the start of the year. I finished reading it today and I'm finally going to return it when I get back to Stuyvesant after break.
  • St. Marks Is Dead by Ada Calhoun.
    • I borrowed this from the Stuyvesant library. I finished it. Personally, I wish it had even more details and was more historical rather than narrative. But maybe what I'm wishing for is impossible.
  • Oy Oy Oy Gevalt! Jews and Punk by Michael Croland
    • I am linking with Tali on friday to give this back. I've finished this book for months now.
  • AMSCO Advanced Placement United States Government & Politics textbook
    • I have not opened this since my last AP Gov homework assignment last semester. The AP exam is pretty soon, I should study... but I don't want to ruin my break by studying for AP Gov.
  • My scrapbook on the bottom. Here's what it looks like:

Books

In terms of books that I've been reading, there's only two on my list. The Last Bohemia: Scenes from the Life of Williamsburg, Brooklyn by Robert Anasi and Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. I've designated Catch-22 as a book to read at home and the Willaimsburg book as a book to read outside. The former is big and fat (not heavy though) while the latter is thin and fits in the back pocket of my pants. Portability is key.
I also started reading Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg after Barret reminded me of it's existence some time ago. I started reading it yesterday I think. I'm reading the pdf of it online. I'm currently on page 167 out of 386. I would not have lasted a day out there in the 50s ooh buddy no sir-eeee.

Movies

I've been watching movies again. I've started taking notes in my scrapbook as I watch them because I have so many thoughts and I used to just note them down on any piece of scrap paper that I have near me and then compile them all into my letterboxd review. But now I get all my thoughts into the scrapbook and keep my reviews succinct.

Here are all the movies that I've taken notes on.

Music

My favorite songs at the moment:
  • Straight Edge Revenge by Project X. I had this song on repeat a few days ago. The lyrics are sooo straight edge, I won't spoil them for you, you just gotta listen to it. I especially like the delivery of "this time you pushed me too farrrrrr"
  • Balls n All by Rest in Pieces. I love the chorus, "SUCK MY DICK BALLS AND ALL/SUCK MY DICK BALLS AND ALL"
  • The Whole Of The Law by The Only Ones. It's mellow in comparison to the other two.
  • Fools Die by Killing Time. I like the delivery of "I don’t want to be a fool" during the breakdown.
  • Closed Groove by Stiff Little Fingers. AWESOME SONG.
  • The Wonderful City by Jimmie Rodgers and Sara Carter. No more needs to be said.
  • Fed Up! by Judge. I love the end especially. "Smoking that butt, it makes you mature/A slave to sex, and you tell me you're pure/You slam that beer, it makes you a man/I'll try to keep my cool, but you better understand"

OUTRO

This is a pretty short blog post compared to my usual. I think it's because I've also been journaling pretty often so I don't really feel the need to get my thoughts out onto a blog post.

Here's a thought from my "inner thoughts" notes app from April 21st, 2024: "put me in one o them mascot costumes ill fuck some shit up" and I think this statement is very true and very real. I WILL beat someone shitless in that costume, just you wait...

I will leave you all with this photo:

Buh bye
